With more workers returning to offices since Labor Day, the Washington region’s notorious rush-hour traffic has returned with a vengeance, as pandemic-era hybrid schedules have made commuting less predictable and, in many cases, more miserable.

Motorists who had hoped the increase in telework would keep traffic congestion at bay say their morning commute, particularly this past week, has taken up to twice as long as in the spring and during the summer lull.
